Wireless Services Delivers Over Nine Million Data Messages in 1998

Wireless Data Traffic Increases More Than 500% From 1997

Bellevue, WA February 8, 1999 - Wireless Services Corp., a provider of wireless e-mail , systems management and information services to PCS (Personal Communications Service) and paging carriers, today announced that its delivery base has dramatically risen to 9.3 million wireless data transmissions in 1998, compared to approximately 1.8 million transmissions in 1997. Through the company’s technology platform that includes wireless email, Internet paging, two-way paging, and fax confirmation, the number of wireless data transmissions increased by as much as 160,000 data messages in one month. The company currently provides applications and information services to wireless carriers including AirTouch Paging, Nextel Communications, PageNet, SkyTel and VoiceStream Wireless.

"This remarkable growth is a reflection of the increasing maturity of wireless networks. With their rapidly expanding subscriber numbers and increased competition, the need for messaging and information services has increased significantly," said Steve Wood, president and CEO of Wireless Services. "Our carrier partners rely on our technology platform to help respond to their customers’ needs and differentiate their services."

Business Need for Wireless Data Transmission

As e-mail has become an integral part of the way business professionals communicate, Wireless Services’ technology platform offers a powerful communications tool for receiving messages inexpensively and efficiently, providing more control over when, where and how messages are delivered. The company works with existing wireless technologies, such as digital telephones, wireless networks and paging devices to provide untethered services to an increasingly mobile society, offering reliable, portable and compact communication links between home, office and field locations.

Wireless Services works with wireless carriers to utilize any and all existing communications networks as appropriate, and is not limited to any particular communications infrastructure. The company reaches millions of customers through wireless carriers as well as other organizations that have a desire to offer additional value to subscribers. For example, Wireless Services provides wireless Internet paging capabilities to more than two million Nextel customers nationwide with an Internet messaging gateway technology that allows the delivery of text messages to Nextel phones from any personal computer with access to the Internet.

"The explosion of the Internet market is based on the business necessity of obtaining information the easiest and fastest way using the latest in technology," said Wood. "We’re excited to continue working with the growing wireless carrier market to provide millions of people who are on-the-go the ability to easily manage e-mail and information."
