AirNote FAQ
Q: What is my password?
A: If you do not know your AirNote
password you can request it from the AirNote website on our logon
page where it says "Did you forget your password". We
will then momentarily send your password to your wireless device
or e-mail.
Click here if you would like
to go there now.
Q: What does this error message mean? "Your account information did not match any users on the system or was incomplete. Please correct it and try again."
A: This message means that the AirNote Name and password combination you used was not recognized. If you know your AirNote Name you can request your password from the AirNote Logon page and try again. The most common reason that customers receive this message is because they have entered an incorrect password. If you are unsure of your AirNote name or suspect another problem please send us an e-mail at support@AirNote.net
Q: How do I stop these CNN news pages?
A: These automatic news feeds are controlled by your wireless carrier not AirNote. Please call your wireless carrier and request cancellation of your CNN news feeds.
Q: Why are my pages delayed or never received?
A: There are several places a message can be delayed. When a message is created and you hit "Send" from your email client the message is processed through your mail server and delivered to the Internet. Once on the Internet it travels to the AirNote mail server. Once we receive it on our mail server we evaluate the message against any customized settings you have set up. If we determine you want the message delivered we deliver it to your wireless device.
The best way to track delivery of your messages is to send a message and find out where it is being delayed. Once you send the message, logon to the AirNote website and look under "Retrieve Messages" to locate the message. The AirNote Mail Gateway should receive it within a few minutes. If it does not then the delay is most likely on your mail system and you should speak with your internal Mail administrators.
The time we queue up your message for delivery and the time your message is actually delivered to the Wireless Carrier is available from our website under "Retrieve Messages". These times should be within 1-2 minutes of each other. If they are not then there may be a problem accessing your Wireless Carrier and you should email support@AirNote.net with the specifics of the message. If the times look reasonable but you never receive the message on your wireless device then the problem is probably within your carrier's network or your wireless device. If this is the case you should call your wireless carrier representative.
Q: Does Wireless Services Corp/AirNote sell or service pagers or PCS phones?
A: No, we do not sell or service any wireless devices directly. We are a value added service provider. We can work with any paging carrier or PCS carrier that provides an alphanumeric delivery system. We prefer toll free access but it is not a requirement.
Q: Can you explain Message Limits?
A: The number of characters per message is dictated by your Wireless carrier. The per message limit for most carriers ranges from 80-240 characters. The limit for most PCS carriers is 140-160 characters. The limit for the Skytel 2-Way network is between 500-2000 characters, depending on your device. These are fixed limits and cannot be changed.
However, you can increase your own AirNote "Message Length" to as high as 3950 characters. Typically people set their message length to 2-3 pages. If you want to receive 3 pages and you're per message length is 160 characters set your own message length to 480 characters.
Q: Can I send the same message to multiple AirNote users?
A: Absolutely. We call these groups and we can set these up for you by sending an e-mail to support@AirNote.net. You need to provide us with your 1st and 2nd preference for the name of the group and the AirNote names of the people who should belong to this group. The members of the group must be AirNote subscribers.
Q: Under Delivery Schedules what are Market days?
A: Market days are Monday-Friday, non-holidays.
Q: How do I send all my regular email to my Pager or PCS Phone?
A: Many e-mail systems allow you to forward all copies of incoming mail to another Internet address and also keep a copy locally on your mail server. We refer to this as forking your e-mail. Depending on your e-mail system, this may also be referred to as Auto Forward or Rules. If your mail system does enable you to forward your mail then you can set up your system to forward all your primary e-mail to your AirNote address and then use our website to set up Filters or Advanced Rules to manage the messages you receive on your wireless device. Contact your e-mail administrator to find out if you can forward your e-mail to your AirNote e-mail address. E-Mail administrators can find some additional information about e-mail forwarding by clicking here.
For your information, America On-Line, MSN, Prodigy and CompuServe do not allow you to forward your e-mail outside their system.
As an alternative, if you are unable to forward your e-mail you can give out your AirNote address and have us forward a copy to your regular e-mail address.
Q: Can you explain how to use message filtering?
A: Help for message filtering can be found here.
Q: The junk list appears to be ignored if any Advanced Rules are used, is this true?
A: No this is not true. They are not mutually exclusive. You can use both or only one. Some people refer to Filters as their default rules and then use Advanced Rules for more specific filtering.
Q: It appears that the ordering of advanced rules are important, please explain.
A: Yes the order is important. Filters and Advanced Rules are processed sequentially and a decision is not made until they are all processed. When a message is received at the AirNote Gateway it is evaluated against your Filters first and then your Rules before a decision is made as to what to do with the message.
Q: Once I click "Save New Settings" on Advanced Rules or Filters how long before these take effect.
A: Immediately. Once it is saved the next message will follow these rules.
Q: What is the difference between PCS and GSM and the other wireless protocols I have heard mentioned?
A: PCS is a general term used to describe the new digital cellular telephone services in the U.S. It stands for "Personal Communications Services". There are heated discussions that amount to religious wars over exactly which cellular companies have the right to call their system PCS. The most narrow definition only includes systems which utilize spectrum in the 1900 MHz bands that were auctioned by the FCC over the last 1-4 years. The broader definition includes all of the digital cellular systems. From a customers perspective, the broad definition is the more useful one. The features and functions tend to be very nearly identical regardless of the frequency.
CDMA, TDMA, and GSM are specific protocols that are used in digital cellular systems. GSM is the standard used nearly everywhere in the world except the U.S. There are 8-10 cellular companies in the U.S. now using GSM (although at different frequencies than the rest of the world). TDMA is the protocol that AT&T uses. CDMA is a newer protocol used by Sprint, AirTouch, GTE, and others. From a customers perspective the protocol is really only important because it determines how widely you can roam with the same handset. A TDMA phone will not work on a GSM or CDMA system, or vice-versa.
CDPD is yet another protocol, designed to allow bi-directional data communications over the analog cellular telephone networks. It stands for "Cellular Digital Packet Data". CDPD requires a specialized handset or terminal. AT&T is the largest proponent of CDPD.
