Choose one of the three
content options available. This setting will determine how much of your
incoming message is forwarded to your device.
Send the
"From" and "Subject" portions of email
messages.
Use this setting to send a
brief AirNote message to your pager. AirNote will only tell you
who is sending you the email message and what the subject of that
email message is.
Send the
"From", "Subject" and first portion of email
message text.
Use this setting to send a
longer portion of your email message to your pager. This setting
will send as many characters of your email message as you
designate in the Message Length setting. In
addition, this setting will also tell you who is sending you the
email message and what the subject of that email message is.
Send the
"Subject" and first portion of email
message text.
Use this setting to send the subject
and message only. We will not send you the FROM field. This setting
will send as many characters of your incoming message as you
designate in the Message Length setting.
Enter the maximum number
of characters you would like to receive in an AirNote
This setting controls how many
characters of your AirNote messages are forwarded to your pager.
This can be set to any length. Note however, that if you set this
greater than the number of characters that your pager will
accept in one page, it will result in the AirNote message being
sent to you as two or more pages. Your paging company determines
how many characters are included in a single page.
Your monthly paging bill may
increase with the number of pages you receive. This setting can
increase or reduce the number of paging messages you receive.
This feature allows you to
control how we format your messages when we send them to your
pager. We can use varying degrees of message compression
depending on your needs.
"None"
We will send the message
exactly as we receive it. This is a useful choice if you are
trying to send formatted messages to your pager, i.e. reports,
columnar data.
"Low
Compression"
When you choose this
compression level we will take out multiple white spaces and
extra punctuation.
"High
Compression"
When you choose this
compression level we will condense the message as much as
possible. We will remove multiple spaces and punctuation from
your messages and perform word substitution. For example, the
word GREAT will appear as GR8. All spaces will be reduced to a
single space. This level of compression is useful if you want to
receive as much as the message as possible and format is not
important to you.
This feature allows you to
set your Time Zone, and change it as you move around the country.
All your AirNote delivery schedules will be set according to the
time zone you set here.
When an incoming email message
destined for you reaches the AirNote service, it becomes an AirNote message.
You can have copies of all incoming messages forwarded to one or more email addresses.
We allow you to forward mail to a maximum of 5 addresses. You should enter a
full Internet email address such as: name@msn.com. If you are forking an external
email address to your AirNote account please be careful not to include the same
forwarding address or you will put yourself into an email loop.
When we first set up your
subscription for AirNote you will receive a user name and
password. The user name and password will be sent to your pager.
We suggest that you then change your password to something that
is both unique and memorable to you. If you forget your password
please use our "Did you Forget your Password" function on our logon
page or send an email to
support@airnote.net.
The AirNote system can
send an acknowledgment, confirming that it has received and sent
an AirNote message. The acknowledgment will be sent via email to
the sender of the message. By default, new AirNote subscribers do
not have acknowledgments turned on. If you would like senders to
receive an acknowledgment you need to configure a custom
acknowledgment. The two options available are:
Do not send any
acknowledgment.
The AirNote system will
NOT send any acknowledgments on your behalf unless you have
specific acknowledgments configured in Advanced Rules.
Send the following
custom acknowledgment.
The AirNote system will
allow you to type in your own custom acknowledgment message. It
is best to include your name in the custom acknowledgments so the
receivers understand who it is from.
Note: Acknowledgments
can also be configured in Advanced Rules. Here you can configure
unique acknowledgments based on criteria in the email message.
AirNote messages that have
been sent to your pager in the last 15 days (default) can be
retrieved from here. If you use our Email Forwarding
feature, you will see any AirNote messages that were forwarded to
your email addresses. When you select this option you will be
presented with a list of all the AirNote messages sent to you. On
this first screen you will see the Date, Time and message.
The time displayed is the actual time we delivered your message
to your paging carrier. If you double click on the summary of a particular message we
will display additional information about the message. The type of message
(e.g. pager or email); The Queued time is the time we received the message and
put it in our queue to be sent; Sent time is when we
delivered the message to your paging carrier; Results
indicate what happened to the message.
Filtering may be the most
effective AirNote feature available to you. Filtering is
important if you are a frequent wireless device user, or if you want to
control your messaging costs. This set of features will give you
greater control over what AirNote messages are forwarded or not forwarded to
your wireless device. As you might have guessed from their titles,
Filtering and Advanced Rules let you decide which email is Hot
or important, and which email is Junk or not important
enough to forward to your wireless device or email forwarding address.
What is the difference
between Filters and Advanced Rules?
Filters are slightly easier
to configure than Advanced Rules. Advanced rules are usually used by advanced users
who want a greater degree of granularity. Filters allow you to enter an basic internet
email address to include or ignore. Advanced Rules allow you to specify
criteria based on the sender or recipients of the email, the
subject, the priority, or the body. Under Advanced Rules,
messages that match a rule may be ignored; delivered to your
email or wireless device, forwarded to other internet email addresses; or a custom
reply may be sent.
Note:Filtering
provides you the ability to optionally specify a custom message
length for each of your hot list entries. This Custom message
length is not available from Advanced Rules. For example, you may
specify that any messages from myboss@company.com should always
have up to 500 characters sent.
FAQ about Filters and
Advanced Rules.
Hot and Junk List Message Filtering
How do I set up my filters? You
have to add email addresses to your Hot and Junk lists. The
AirNote Gateway will evaluate incoming AirNote Messages that arrive for
you, and make a decision based on your filters whether to forward
the message to you or not. Email addresses entered in your Junk List
will NOT be forwarded to your wireless device or email forwarding addresses.
Email addresses entered in your Hot List
will be forwarded to your wireless device or email forwarding addresses depending on
your delivery schedules.
Note: The Hot List will always take
precedence over the Junk List.
For Example, if you do not want to receive
AirNote Messages sent from bdole@GOP.com then you would add this
record to your Junk List.
Another common example, if you wish to receive messages
only from a selected list of senders, enter '*' in your Junk list
to filter out everything, then enter the specific list of senders
you do wish to receive messages from in your Hot List.
Can you use wildcards? Yes, you
can use the following wildcards in your email addresses.
| WildCards |
Description |
| * |
This matches any number of characters. |
| ? |
This matches any single character. |
For example, to filter out all messages from
xyz.com, enter '*@xyz.com' into your Junk List.
Message Length
You can use this feature to set unique message
lengths on addresses in your Hot List. These will over-ride your
default message lengths. For example, if you usually receive 240 characters per AirNote
message but on messages from your boss you want to receive more of the message you could
use the Hot List Message Length feature and specify that any messages from
myboss@company.com should always have 500 characters sent.
How do I setup Advanced
Rules? It is helpful when setting up rules to have a copy
of the email message available that you want the AirNote system to filter. This way you
can be sure to get the criteria correct when you enter it.
Then follow these steps:
- Select Advanced Rules from
our website.
- Click on "Add a
Rule".
- Pick a constant from the
email message you want to identify, e.g. what will be
unique about this message every time it arrives. It may
be the "Subject:" will contain humor or
maybe it will always be "From:" listserv@isp.com.
Enter this criteria or content in one of the
following fields:
Next, you need to decide
what you want to do with this message. Your can choose one of the
following:
Lastly, Click on the
"Save New Settings" button.
Repeat this process for each
rule you want to add. Once you add a rule it will automatically
be "Active:". You can temporarily turn off the Rule by
selecting "Deactivate" on the Advanced Rules page. If
you "Deactivate" a rule it will be saved but not used
when we evaluate your messages. If you choose to
"Delete" a rule it will be permanently deleted.
Note: Remember, the order of rules is important because they will be evaluated
in sequential order.
Enter the maximum
number of days you would like to keep old messages.
This setting we refer
to as "Keep days" and this tells us how long to keep
your messages available under Retrieve Messages. The
default setting is 15 days and the maximum is 35 days. If you set
this to 0 we will NOT keep any of your messages. Once we deliver
them they will be deleted, this is a security feature. CAUTION:
If you set your keep days to 0 and are using advanced rules or our Junk List features
you run the risk of losing messages. This is particularly true if you are using AirNote
as your POP server or do not forward a copy of your mail elsewhere.
Enter the maximum
number of messages you would like to receive in any rolling 60
minute time period.
For purposes of
example, lets assume that you have set this to 5 messages per 60
minute rolling period. When an email message reaches the AirNote
Internet gateway, the AirNote service reviews the past 60 minutes
of service. If fewer than five messages have been sent, the
AirNote message is sent to your pager.
If five or more AirNote
messages have been sent to your pager in the previous 60 minutes,
that message is not sent to your pager. Message limits only affect your wireless
device and therefore all messages will still be forwarded to your email forwarding
address and stored on the AirNote Internet website depending on your settings.
Enter the maximum
number of messages you would like to receive in one day.
The same scenario is
true for the maximum number of messages you would like to receive
in one day. The day ends at Midnight. Whatever number you enter
here will become the limit for the number of AirNote messages you
receive that day, up to Midnight. If you don't want any limit
placed on the number of AirNote messages you receive per day,
enter 0 here.
The default settings
are 50 messages in a rolling 60 minute period and 1000 per day.
Note: This feature
can help you control your paging costs in case of a runaway
message.
Send every
AirNote page
Do not send
duplicate AirNote pages.
The AirNote system can
detect AirNote pages that are exact duplicates. The System will
remember every AirNote page sent in the past 24 hours. Do you
want duplicate AirNote pages sent, or not sent?
If you do not
want duplicate AirNote pages sent, how many minutes back, up to
24 hours, should we check?
To use this feature, it
is necessary to tell the AirNote system over what period of time
do you want us to look for duplicates.
The Delivery Schedule
feature allows you to control when you receive AirNote Messages.
To set delivery schedules
you need to understand three things:
- The device you want to
configure (Pager, Email, or Fax).
- When you want to
receive, or not receive AirNote Messages on each device.
- What you want us to do
at these specified times (Send, Store or Ignore).
Here is an explanation of
devices:
Options can be one of the following:
| Option |
Description |
| Send |
We will send all AirNote Messages to
the device specified. |
| Ignore |
We will not send AirNote
Messages for this device. |
| Store |
When you choose the store option we
will hold your AirNote Messages for this device based on
your schedule. When you tell us to resume delivery we
will forward to this device the messages we have been
storing. |
| |
Important Details
By default, when an AirNote subscriber is set
up in our system we add a delivery schedule for your device to send
AirNote messages 24 hours a day. If you have specified an email forwarding
address we also create a delivery schedule for your email forwards.
You must have at least one delivery schedule for your AirNote account
to be working correctly. The only time you may not need a delivery schedule is if your
using AirNote as a POP mail server only.
You may set up custom delivery schedules to
override the defaults. For example you can adjust your delivery schedule to only
receive AirNote messages from 8am-5pm on Monday-Friday. AirNote gives you the power to
choose when you want to receive your AirNote messages.
If you want messages always sent to your pager,
create a schedule that looks like this. This is the default
configuration for new AirNote subscribers:
If you want messages sent to your email forwarding
address at all times and to your wireless device after hours, create a schedule
that looks like this:
The Temporary Delivery
Schedule feature allows you to override your default delivery
schedule. You can either suspend or activate devices. This can
be useful when your traveling or on vacation.
To set temporary
delivery schedules you need to understand three things:
- The device you want
to configure (pager, email, or fax).
- When you want to
suspend or activate each device.
- What you want us to
do at these specified times.
Here is an
explanation of devices:
Options can be one of the following:
| Option |
Description |
| Send |
We will send all AirNote Messages to
the device specified. |
| Ignore |
We will not send AirNote
Messages to this device. |
| Store |
When you choose the store option we

Important Details
You must have a delivery schedule for both your wireless device
and email. Without a delivery schedule you will not receive any messages.
If you want pages ignored for 24 hours setup a
schedule that looks like this:
Note: Please remember that this schedule only
affects your AirNote messages.
